Sittin' On The Dock... Thinking Out Loud.

Sittin' On The Dock... Thinking Out Loud.

Every time I get fed up with "Island Life", I see this water and go, "Maybe I could do a few more years." It looks like paradise. I agree. Waters like this heal your soul in a place you didn't know you needed healing. The slow life style forces you to enjoy the moments and the people more than the things. (Or tings, as they say here.) Sure, grocery shopping is a nightmare. Mail is a whole situation that often involves me waiting weeks for something, or spending 3 days tracking down a package. I would die for a Target. A CVS. An anything really. You learn that power and water can go off at any time, probably daily, and it becomes a little game against the clock.  You learn that lunch will take 2 hours for a sandwich. And you learn to chill the F out.

Fall Decoration Inspiration

Fall Decoration Inspiration

There's a nip in the air here in Miami, and everyone in the North would laugh at us. Jackets and boots are in full force for the 45-60 degree weather. Everyone is taking the opportunity to indulge in hot chocolate and lattes since it's cool enough where you don't actually start to sweat while drinking them. To me, it's the Fall I was used to growing up here as a kid. And escaping the heat of Nassau makes me smile.

YOU get better. {A letter to Joan Rivers}

Yesterday, I posted a quote by Joan Rivers from an episode of LOUIE on Instagram. And while I never met Joan Rivers in any sense, the day combined called for a personal letter. I hope you don't mind me sharing it here...

Joan Rivers Quote YOU get better

Oh, Joan. For years you have made me laugh. Your documentary inspired me on so many levels. Your hustle. Your strength. Your wit. You even made fashion a conversation between me and my husband on a regular basis. We would sit and eat dinner or curl up on the couch and listen to every bold and outrageous thing (that we all were thinking) so perfectly come out of your mouth in a genius string of comedy perfection. But this quote. Whether you wrote it, or a writer on LOUIE wrote it. This quote really is the light in the dark. This quote embodies who you were as a comedian, a woman, a person, and a human. When it got tough. You got better.

Before I learned of your passing, I was on the phone with one of my dearest friends. A friend that pushes me, and inspires me, to be my most authentic creative self. I told her how I felt like I was finally re-finding myself. In life. In fashion. In acting. In my marriage. On the blog. How in LA, I had surrounded myself with noise, internally and externally, making me feel too this, too that, too short, too curvy, too fair skinned, too brunette, too plain, too funky, too sarcastic, a little too everything and yet not enough. Crushing who I was. Our move was not something I had hoped for. In fact, I cried for months preparing for "the big move from Los Angeles to Nassau, Bahamas", but then slowly something beautiful began to happen. Once I landed on the rock, I slowly started to peel off the "too"'s and allow myself to breathe. My friend and I talked about FromCtoC, but in a life sense, not a "blog" sense. We talked about the importance of selfishness, self-importance, and boundaries. We talked about relationships, depressions, goals, and joys. We talked about love and loss. I told her that at times I still feel like that doe-eyed intern at TeenVOGUE, I still feel overwhelmed and lost. Reaching around in the dark, hoping my outfit is cute enough. We talked about how the key to ending everyday with purpose, is authentically believing in what we do. Regardless if anyone get's it or not.

See Joan. What we were trying to say, you had already said... Life. Love. Work. Stress. Bullying. Aspirations. Noise. It doesn't change. The world isn't going to magically "get better". But WE can get better. Slowly. Daily. Even when we take steps backwards. Big or small. Little by little. I can, and am, getting better at all of "it". And as I get better, I start setting my self-worth and boundaries, and acknowledging the worth and boundaries of others, and in turn I begin to surround myself with a better world.

"IT" doesn't get better. "YOU" get better. I will think of this in every challenge and triumph.

Thank you for the laughs. Thank you for your hustle.

We all appreciate it.

A little Thursday inspiration...

Because Thursdays aren't Fridays, and they can be rough, I wanted to include a little inspiration to the day. I just posted Kid President on my Facebook Page, but then I watched this video from him and loved it just as much.

Today is an extra special day for me. It is the 8 year anniversary to my first heart procedure. Between 2006 and 2008, I went through several lows with my health, but I have been healthy ever since. Every year, on July 3rd, I take a moment to be as grateful as I can possibly be. It's easy to get bogged down by the amount of stuff going on in everyday life. It's easy to want to rush towards the weekend. But remembering that just a few years ago I wasn't sure of all that, makes me want to sip my coffee a little slower.

So enjoy this weekend, enjoy today, have an amazing 4th of July. And Please! Be nice to yourself and to others! You never know what battles they are facing.

Celebrate we will , for life is short, but sweet for certain.

Weekly What I'm Into!

1. 13 Cooking Hacks. These are such simple and amazing ideas. I want to do them all. Especially the salt shaker idea. Why had I not thought of that earlier?!

2. Katy Perry's tour started this week and it looks A-MAZ-ING. These 9 outfit changes are incredible, and I'm so jealous that I don't get to play dress up like that every night. I might start parading around the house in major neon sequins from now on.

3. One Eyed Cats of Instagram. We just took in a stray kitten, with a wonky left eye, so when this gem popped up on Buzzfeed I felt overly attached to the content. How cute are they?!

4. We all know I am Alex Preston OBSESSED. I really think he is going to take the crown. I don't care what the judges say. He is the real deal. When he performed Yellow  on wednesday, I about changed my first dance song. Be still my heart.

5. Last but 100000% not least. Diane Keaton was on Dr. Oz this week and I just happened to have the TV on in the house. Thank Goodness I did because I think this quote of her defining what beauty is to her, is life changing. I will be buying her book when I am in the states next week. I typed the quote out for you, but skip to 5 minutes into this video and watch her say it yourself.  In fact, the entire interview is the most beautiful and honest interview I have seen in a long time. You won't regret it. It gives me chills every time."I think beauty is honestly, it’s a feeling to me. I hate the fact that people put beauty on a pedestal and try to remove it from the ordinary experience of life. But that’s all it is, it’s moment to moment. It’s like me looking at your eyes. It’s like be open to change, and when I say being open to change I really mean that. Because like if you say ‘I only like yellow flowers and that’s it.’ You’re kind of finished with beauty. It’s so much, it’s more all encompassing. It’s not a face in the mirror all the time. Don't you think? I mean what do you think beauty is?”- Diane Keaton

Weekly What I'm Into!

1. The Every Girl's interview with Seventeen Magazine's Ann Shoket. I love this interview so much. Especially when she is asked "Best advice you have ever received?" This is her answer: "My favorite interview ever was when I sat down with Barbara Walters. I asked her, what do you know now that you wish you knew when you were a teen. She said, “Don’t imagine that your life now is the way it’s always going to be. You have no idea how interesting your life can become.” That’s an amazing message for women of any age. There are endless possibilities out there for you. You just have to be open to them!"

2. This VIDEO of a dad having a conversation with his 14 month old through a sliding glass door will make you giggle for sure! I imagine J will be a lot like this. Make sure you turn the volume up so you can hear the dad talking through a sliding glass window, saying gems likes: "She's a slave driver, it's good you know this now."

3. Ed Sheeran's cover of Drunk in Love is pretty amazing! That's all.

4. Finally picked our florist! And it's the amazing and unparalleled Anthology. I can not even describe how excited I am about this! I can't wait! The wedding less than 4 months away!!

5. Last but obviously not least, I was watching Bethenny,as I always do, and she mentioned that she is releasing a SkinnyGirl Hummus nation wide. I literally jumped for joy, since I love me some hummus and anything my girl Bethenny does. Now, I couldn't find ANYTHING about it online, but I found her recipe for how to make your own at home. So, we will start with that... Here is it!

Home Inspiration // Pottery Barn Sale!

My mom, sister, and friend are visiting on Thursday (aka Carly's BIRTHDAY)!! It will be the FIRST time people actually staying with us in our new home, here in Nassau, Bahamas. My family has come via cruise ship before for a nice long day, and so have some friends. But this time the guest rooms will actually be used! I am so pumped I can't even explain. But I am an odd ball, and instead of worrying about normal things, I am cleaning like a freak. I have already reorganized my make-up cabinet. (Molly would be proud!) And now I'm on to junk drawers.

So, I apologize for neglecting the blog a bit this week. OOTD posts and fun collaborations are to come, but I need to finish my cleaning tear.

Here's some inspiration for what I pretend our beach home looks like mixed with a few things I am lusting over from Pottery Barns Warehouse Clearance Sale!. It's getting closer to making this dream home a reality, but like everything in the Bahamas, it takes some time.

As J would say, "TIB!" aka This Is Bahamas.
